about the product

amorphophallus atroviridis is a rare tuberous aroid native to central Thailand. It is admired for its striking dark green, silver-patterned leaves and compact growth habit. During dormancy, the foliage naturally dies back while the underground tuber rests before producing new growth in warmer conditions.

    sizing

The plant is sold as a sprouted tuber. Upon arrival, simply plant the tuber beneath the soil and water it once. New growth should emerge within 7–10 days. Once the plant is fully established and has developed leaves, increase watering frequency to keep it actively growing.

    CARING TIPS

    Note
The following care guide is suggested based on the weather conditions of NSW and VIC. For other Australian states, please use this as a reference and adjust according to your local climate.

    Origin
    Central Thailand
    Wet tropical habitat
Rocky limestone areas, cliffs and well-draining tropical ground

    Life Cycle & Dormancy
Spring – Summer → active growth
Usually grows best from around September to March
Produces one striking umbrella-like leaf from the underground tuber
Dark green to almost black foliage with pink leaf margins may appear during active growth

    Autumn – Winter → dormant
The leaf may naturally yellow, collapse and disappear from June to August
Complete leaf loss during dormancy is normal for tuberous Amorphophallus

    Soil
Fast draining but slightly moisture-retentive mix
Mineral-rich soil with some organic matter recommended
Pumice, perlite, bark, coarse sand & small gravel work well
A deeper pot is recommended to allow the tuber to sit comfortably
Avoid heavy, compacted or waterlogged potting mix

    Watering
Water only when the plant is actively growing
Spring – Summer → regular watering while the leaf is healthy and open
Allow the mix to become nearly dry between watering
During humid or rainy weeks, wait longer between watering
Autumn → reduce watering as the leaf begins to yellow
Winter dormancy → keep the tuber almost completely dry
Do not water a dormant tuber heavily

    Light
Bright indirect light to gentle morning sun
    Morning sun is ideal
Strong filtered light encourages healthy leaf colour and stronger growth
Protect the leaf from harsh afternoon sun during heatwaves
Best grown with bright light, warmth and very good airflow

    Temperature
    Best: 22–30°C
Winter nights can be too cool and damp for active growth
Winter minimum: 12–15°C recommended for potted tubers
Keep dormant tubers warm, dry and well ventilated during cold periods
Move indoors or under cover during long rainy winter weeks

    SHIPPING & RETURNS

Plant may drop its leaves during shipping or in Sydney’s cooler months, especially from June to August. This is normal, as the plant is deciduous and can naturally enter dormancy during autumn and winter. New leaves will usually grow back once the weather becomes warmer and brighter.

After arrival, soak the plant in water or diluted HB101 / Seasol for 3–5 hours. Then keep it in shade for 1–2 days to recover and adapt gently.

For live plants, we ship them bareroot (roots only, without soil and pot). This helps make the shipping process smoother, faster, and safer, while also greatly reducing the risk of root rot during transit.

Pots, soil mixes, and fertilizers will be packed carefully and shipped securely.
